Product Design

Product development and project management services are produced by the experienced Sweco Mecaplan Oy. The joint venture was established in 2001 by Mecanova and Sweco Industry, which is closely connected to top research in the field.

The design service is an integral part of Mecanova’s Product Lifecycle Management service concept. We offer all-inclusive life cycle services from research projects to product maintenance. The product expertise and knowledge of production and manufacturing techniques that Sweco Mecaplan’s experts possess help our customers speed up their product development projects, launch products for serial production and improve product processability. All this reduces the manufacturing expenses of a product.

Smart design brings savings

Typically, Sweco Mecaplan’s projects are related to product combinations of the electronic and electric power industries and machine and equipment manufacturers’ products. Our specialists have considerable special expertise in the product development of box-type structures, moulding and sealing design as well as development of work methods. An all-round knowledge of manufacturing techniques and an international network of suppliers support product development at the various stages of a project.

A close connection with research

Sweco Mecaplan is engaged in continuous research and development cooperation with the University of Oulu, the Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Centria, and the leading machine and equipment manufacturers.


Compatible systems

Our services cover detailed preliminary design and a processability study (DFMA). During the above, the risks related to manufacture are charted and manufacturing expenses determined. We use I-DEAS, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineering and UGS NX, CATIA software as design systems, among others.

We use the Windchill PDM system for product life cycle management. The system enables the distribution of up-to-date product and design information between the customer’s offices during the product design project via protected network connections.
